Assistant Accounting Manager

Our client, a multi-billion dollar international company with a large manufacturing division located in Columbus, Indiana (30-40 minutes south of Downtown Indianapolis) has enlisted our assistance in their search for an Assistant Accounting Manager which is a highly visible leadership position to add to their team. The Assistant Accounting Manager will be responsible for a wide range of duties including month-end closing, financial statement preparation, analysis and cost calculations.
Primary
Responsibilities:
-Managing 5 direct reports including: (Cost Accountant, Fixed Assets, Inventory, AR, and AP Staff)
-Responsible for the monthly closing process including; recoding and approving journal entries, analyzing and reviewing results to ensure accuracy and completeness and to understand business performance.
-Oversee and maintain all aspects of the general ledger (SAP) including chart of accounts, preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, allocations, account reconciliations and fixed assets.
-Prepare monthly financial statements and reporting package for management and corporate. Respond to questions about expenses, trends and deviations from budgets.
-Manages calculation and analysis of Cost of Goods Sold on a monthly and quarterly basis, providing guidance for any fluctuations between periods.
-Analyzing inventory costs and levels as well as perform variance analysis.
-Assist with quarterly and annual preparation of various audit and financial statement schedules.
-Interface with outside auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
-Drive standardization and best practices to deliver world class business and decision making support to the divisions.
-Prepare ad hoc reports for management as requested
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA or advanced degree in Accounting highly desirable
- 5
years progressive experience in accounting management, preferably in large international manufacturing organization
- Cost Accounting experience a strong plus
-Strong technical skills including experience with a large ERP system and strong excel / PowerPoint skills
- SAP and AS 400 experience a plus
- Strong inventory and cost of goods sold knowledge
- Prior accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Relentless in achieving results in a dynamic and changing environment
- Strong personal work ethic
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; self-starter, motivated, independent thinker
